Mr Walter Kastner is an Engineering Officer on board cruise ships and had undergone replacement of his dentures with dental implants about 2 years ago.
Walter, could you tell me what it was like prior to having the implants done. I had to wear a denture for both the upper and lower jaw for about 2 years and it really made me feel uncomfortable.
Tell me some more about how you found wearing a denture for two years. When I first had them fitted, it was very depressing for me, it was hard to accept. It made me feel old and I felt ashamed. I never thought I would have to wear a denture. I was able to eat with them OK, but it wasn't the same feeling as I had with my own teeth.
So what was it that prompted you to go for dental implants? Well, I had read about it in the newspaper and my dentist James Main, who does place implants, had been telling me about it. I had originally thought it was only for very rich people or celebrities, but realised it really was for anybody.
Can you tell me a little about how the treatment went. The treatment went very well. It wasn't painful and I coped with it extremely well.
So you had the treatment and then had the new teeth put in. How was that and how did you feel? It was a very happy day when I had my new teeth put in. I felt like smiling all the time! It was like being born again.
So it was a really good feeling. Did you find that your social life and confidence improved again. Yes, my social life has improved, I am feeling more confident. I mean I feel very confident now.
Obviously, there is cost involved. You have said in the past that it was like the cost of purchasing a small car, but would you say that it was good value for you? Yes, very good value. I think that teeth are far more an investment and for me personally, I would make the same decision again.
