Dental Implants

For those patients with missing teeth or loose dentures, dental implants are the answer. Where patients are suitable for such treatment we can replace their missing teeth with dental implants which will give them back the teeth they have lost.  For those who wish to stay with dentures, dental implants can offer stability for the dentures so that they will never be loose.  All of this leads to you being far more confident with your smile and ability to chew foods that you enjoy.

What is involved?
Initially you would have a thorough assessment of your suitability for dental implants. Most patients are suitable with the major obstacles being if you smoke or if you suffer from some form of degenerative bone disorder or you have a medical condition which would preclude you from having minor surgery.

As part of the initial planning you will require x-rays and moulds to be made of your mouth and you may require to have CT scan done.

Dental implants are titanium fixtures quite similar to the roots of teeth that are screwed into the jaw and because they are extremely compatible with bone, the bone of the jaw grows onto them and locks them into the jaw. This involves a minor surgical procedure.

Once the implants are fixed into your jaw which could take from 3 to 6 months, a mould of your mouth and the dental implants are taken and this mould is sent to the dental technician who will make the teeth that will be fixed onto your implants.

At you final appointment your teeth would be screwed or cemented onto the implants to replace the missing teeth in your mouth.

Sometimes it is possible to replace an extracted tooth immediately with another tooth onto a dental implant.

What are the benefits?
Dental implants are like having your own teeth back and replace missing teeth without affecting the other teeth in your mouth

Implants can last a very long time so long as they are kept clean and maintained well by you.

Dental implants can also be used to help keep a denture stable in the mouth.

We only use the world leading Nobel Biocare Dental Implant System which can offer the best results clinically and aesthetically and are used by leading clinicians and academic centres throughout the world.
