Pauline Field is a very active retired lady in her 70s. Over the years, some of her teeth had deteriorated to the point where her regular dentist said that nothing more could be done. He advised her to have them all extracted and replaced with two dentures. “I told my dentist that I didn’t fancy something that I would have to put in and take out every day. He then suggested I consult Dr James Main in Glastonbury to discuss the option of dental implants”, says Pauline.
The process began with a clinical consultation, following which Pauline was provided with a fully costed treatment plan. The plan recommended two implant-supported three-tooth bridges and one implant-supported crown. At the treatment appointment Dr Main extracted only the failing teeth and placed five implants on the same day. He added temporary ‘teeth’ so that Pauline was not left with any gaps during the healing process. Six months later, Dr Main replaced the temporary restoration with permanent ‘teeth’.
Pauline says, “I felt a lot better after having implants. I pretty soon forgot I even had them! They were definitely worth having done. I don’t know the difference between the implants and my own teeth. The prospect of the alternative, a denture, was horrible. My new teeth are no problem to look after. I can now eat without any discomfort.”Previous
